This list covers a broad range of organisations ranging from agencies who are involved in campaigning for stricter tobacco controls to organisations who provide and compile national statistics on tobacco consumption and usage. Some of the websites have resources which will be particularly relevant to those involved in educating young people about the risks associated with tobacco.

ASH Scotland

ASH Scotland is the leading voluntary organisation campaigning for effective tobacco control legislation. It has played a key role in raising awareness about tobacco use and its harmful effects and has contributed to the implementation of effective public health policies to help smokers to quit and to protect children from tobacco.

ASH

ASH is a campaigning public health charity working towards achieving a sharp reduction and eventual elimination of the health problems caused by tobacco.

Clearing the air Scotland

A Scottish Executive website which provides the background and detailed guidance for the smoking ban in enclosed public places. You can also access the Tobacco Control Action Plan from here.

The Centre for Tobacco Control Research

The Centre for Tobacco Control Research (CTCR) was established by the Cancer Research Campaign (now Cancer Research UK) in 1999 and is part of the Institute for Social Marketing based at the University of Stirling and The Open University.

GASP Online

The GASP online catalogue contains over 400 stop smoking and tobacco control resources including leaflets, books, activity packs, training materials, displays, posters, models, carbon monoxide monitors and promotional items.

Healthy Living

This website is a joint collaboration between Health Scotland and the Scottish Executive to promote Scotland’s healthyliving programme. Once you’ve weaned yourself off smoking, you’ll have more energy than before and feel up to watching what you eat and getting exercise. This website provides resources, advice and support on healthy eating and physical activity.

No Smoking Day

No Smoking Day is a charity funded by a coalition of governmental and voluntary sector organisations with an interest in health. Now in its 23rd year, the annual No Smoking Day is a firm fixture in the UK calendar.

Scottish Public Health Observatory

The Scottish Public Health Observatory (SPHO), led by Health Scotland and ISD Scotland, brings together key national organisations involved in public health intelligence in Scotland. It ensures that the public health community has easy access to clear and relevant information and statistics to support decision-making.

The Tobacco Control Resource Centre (TCRC)

The TCRC is a resource for doctors and other medical professionals who are involved in tobacco control across Europe. It has recently published a number of specialist resources for medical education on tobacco.

Tobacco Information Scotland

Tobacco Information Scotland (TIS) is a new initiative from Ash Scotland and partners to provide the best possible gateway to smoking and tobacco-related information in Scotland.

World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nations specialized agency for health. The Tobacco Free Initiative (TFI) was established by the WHO in July 1998 to focus international attention, resources and action on the global tobacco epidemic.
