Group Fixed Support

What this services offers

To offer the best chance of success Lanarkshire encourage smokers to attend group support ( local business groups) where they will be offered intensive input from specially trained Cessation Nurse Advisers. Groups take place in various community venues, Libraries, Community / Leisure Centres, etc and at various times of day although most are in early evening. The Specialist Nurses are able to dispense Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) free at the groups therefore no need to visit a GP or Pharmacy for NRT. Attendance involves meeting for around an hour each week for 6 to 7 weeks then two weekly until full course of NRT has been received. Lanarkshire offers extended NRT of up to 26 weeks and dual therapies are given as appropriate and many clients continue to attend the sessions long term to prevent relapse. Support for pregnant women, young people and one to one can be arranged where appropriate along with home visits for the housebound. Many Workplace groups take place regulalry and the Service is happy to negotiate free service provision on site to businesses. Hospital patients and staff can find a full time on site Cessation Nurse Specialist in each of its three Hospitals

We also offer champix(varenicline) at groups.
