What this services offers

Group support sessions are available at a variety of locations and are provided by experienced stop smoking advisors who have been specially trained in helping smokers to stop successfully. These typically take place for 1 hour each week over a course of 6 weeks. Your advisor will give you advice on how to stop smoking and will discuss nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and other stop smoking products with you. If appropriate your advisors will give you a form to take to your GP requesting the product of your choice (normal prescription charges or exemptions apply). The groups are relaxed informal free and friendly and the support and encouragement you get from the advisors and the other quitters in the group means that you are 4 times more likely to stop smoking than going it alone. One-to-one support is also provided as routine in addition to group support. Housebound clients or those for whom English is not a first language can be offered additional support. Support is also available for workplaces inpatients at the Balfour Hospital and pregnant women and their families.
