What this services offers

If you are going into hospital, Smoking Matters would encourage all smokers to think about stopping smoking and seeking advice prior to their planned visit. You can do this by speaking to your GP or phoning the service direct. Also available in hospitals are a trained advisor based in Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary and the Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer. Hospital advisors can offer brief advice to patients, staff and visitors in hospital and when you return home our service will continue to support your stop smoking attempt with telephone advice and with an appointment when appropriate.

Appointment times are morning, afternoon and evening. If a specific time of day is needed please make this request at the initial referral. If a mobile phone number is available, the service can send a first appointment text reminder and can offer texting support thereafter from your Advisor.
