What this services offers

Pregnant mums who smoke are offered stop smoking support through Smoking Matters. This support includes Midwives providing women with information about our service and then referring on those women who are thinking about stopping smoking. Advisors will attempt to make telephone contact prior to your first appointment and an appointment will be made at your nearest health centre or clinic, or can offer a home visit if needed. Partners are also encouraged to use these services and can also be supported either in one of the regular clinics or with your pregnant partner. Nicotine Replacement Therapy can be prescribed for women who find it difficult going 'cold turkey', and support in stopping smoking can be provided over a longer period of time if required.

Appointment times are morning, afternoon and evening. If a specific time of day is needed please make this request at the initial referral. If a mobile phone number is available, the service can send a first appointment text reminder and can offer texting support thereafter from your Advisor.
