What this services offers

If you are going into hospital and would like support to stop smoking, services for inpatients are available in some Grampian hospitals. Intensive support is provided during a patient's stay, as well as Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) on discharge and telephone follow up by a local stop smoking advisor in the community. In Aberdeen, at ARI and Woodend, 2 Secondary Care Smoking Cessation Advisors provide smoking cessation support to patients, staff and visitors. A clinic is run in conjunction with the chest clinic and in-patients. In Elgin, at Dr Gray's, a Smoking Cessation Advisor is available to provide smoking cessation support to patients, staff and visitors, with clinics run in the outpatients department. A Mental Health specialist service is also offered by a Smoking Cessation Specialist at Royal Cornhill Hospital, Aberdeen.

How to contact this service

Patients may be referred by medical and nursing staff. (Clients for the Mental Health Specialist service should be referred by their key worker and have ongoing contact with mental health services.)
