What this services offers

Group support sessions are provided by experienced stop smoking advisors who have been specially trained in helping smokers to stop successfully. These typically take place for 1 hour each week over a course of 7 weeks. Your advisor will give you advice on how to stop smoking, and will discuss nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and other stop smoking products with you. If appropriate, your advisors will give you a form to take to your GP or pharmacist (chemist) requesting the product of your choice (normal prescription charges or exemptions apply). The groups are relaxed, informal and friendly, and the support and encouragement you get from the advisors and the other quitters in the group means that you are much more likely to stop smoking than going it alone. One-to-one support can also be provided if preferred where group support is not a feasible option, such as housebound clients or those for whom English is not a first language. Advisors can visit workplaces to deliver awareness raising sessions and provide stop smoking support to employees over a 7 week period. The majority of local pharmacies (chemists) also offer brief one-to-one advice and NRT, offering this service on a walk-in basis and providing support over a course of 12 weeks.

Sessions are available at a variety of times and locations. Please contact the service for details.
