Details
Individual and group support sessions
Available at local venues across Grampian. These are facilitated by trained smoking cessation advisors and typically take place for 1 hour each week over a course of 6 weeks. If preferred, telephone support can be arranged. Advice on how to stop smoking, and information about products like nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and other stop smoking medicines, is provided.
Community pharmacy scheme
The majority of local pharmacies can offer brief one-to-one advice on stopping smoking and provide NRT. The majority of participating pharmacies offer this service on a walk-in basis. A list of participating pharmacies can be accessed via www.nhsgrampian.org (click on 'Smoking Advice Service').
Pregnancy services
There are a number of services set up around Grampian to offer stop smoking support specifically to pregnant women, often faciliated by midwives trained in smoking cessation. Call 0500 600 332 or email grampiansas@nhs.net to find out about services being provided.
Hospital-based support
At Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen, two trained smoking cessation advisors provide stop smoking support to patients, staff and visitors. A clinic is run in conjunction with the chest clinic and inpatients may also be referred by medical and nursing staff.
At Dr Gray's Hospital, Elgin, a trained smoking cessation advisor is available to provide stop smoking support to patients, staff and visitors. Clinics are run in the outpatients department and a specialist pregnancy service is available here. Inpatients may be referred by medical and nursing staff.
Workplace support scheme
A dedicated smoking cessation advisor can visit workplaces to deliver awareness raising sessions and provide stop smoking cessation support to employees. Sessions are arranged over a 6-week period and are free of charge. Organisations wishing to participate in the scheme should call 0500 600 332 or email grampiansas@nhs.net
Mental health services
Stop smoking support is provided by a trained smoking cessation advisor at Royal Cornhill Hospital, Aberdeen. Clients should be referred by their key worker and have ongoing contact with mental health services.
