NHS Forth Valley Stop Smoking Support

Details

GP support/individual and group support sessions

The first port of call for smokers who want to quit should be their local medical practice. GPs will offer motivational support and can prescribe products to help you stop smoking, including nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). Some medical practices and Health Centres also run their own specialist stop smoking clinics for their practice patients. The type of specialist treatment on offer is mainly one-to-one, but some practices do run group sessions. Call 01786 431 125 for details.

There are drop-in clinics in Stirling (St Ninians Health Centre), Falkirk (Camelon Health Centre) and Clackmannan (Alloa Health Centre). There are also Community Groups run by Stirling Health & Well-Being Alliance. Call 01786 445 760 for details.

The support and encouragement you get from your advisor (and if attending a group support session, other quitters in the group) means that you are much more likely to stop smoking than going it alone.

Community pharmacy scheme

Participating pharmacies (chemists) across Forth Valley offer one-to-one support over a course of 12 weeks, and can provide NRT (which means you don’t need to go to your GP for a prescription).

Pregnancy services

Stop smoking support specifically for pregnant women is available from participating pharmacies and Stirling Royal Infirmary. Free NRT may be available. Call 01786 431 125 for details.

Young people's services

Stop smoking support specifically for young people (age 12-25) is also available participating pharmacies. Free NRT may be available. Call 01786 431 125 for details.

Workplace support scheme

The Quit Programme is a workplace smoking cessation course currently being offered to workplaces within Forth Valley, allowing smokers the opportunity to attend a supportive quit group in the convenience of their own workplace. For more information please contact a member of the Workplace Team on 01786 431 125.
